Recently, at Karns High School the baseball team hosted an event for one of their players, Hayden Jennings. He’s a sophomore at Karns and has been diagnosed with bone cancer. In support of him, they all shaved their heads, in a movement they’ve called Hairless for Hayden.
Hair Loss, coming from Jennings’ chemo treatments, is often a very difficult thing to have to go through, but the baseball team wants him to know he’s not alone. From students to coaches Hayden has their full support.
“…all the boys wanted to support him and that [shaving their heads] was a fantastic way…” Coach Patterson said.
Making such a huge change in one’s appearance takes a lot of courage, however they all knew they had to do it for their fellow player.
“We kind of all just went down to Byington, to the cosmetology room… and we all just sat down and got buzz cuts,” Chandler Burnette, a player on the baseball team said.
Not only did the entire baseball team shave their heads for Hayden, but so did many other students, including people from the football team as well as the wrestling team. Organizing a movement like this must have been no easy task. Blake Bower, another player on the baseball team, recalled one of the major hurdles of getting this event together.
“Probably getting the hairdressers [was the hardest part],” Blake Bowers said.
Though it was somewhat tough to get the hairdressers for the event, they managed to have enough to show up in support and respect for him. Even though Jennings is going through some tough times, he has an amazing group of people in his life that all are working hard to help him overcome these challenges.
