Karns High School provides a multitude of extracurricular activities, engaging courses, and opportunities for students to build connections with the people around them. Freshman students have not only leveled up a grade, but into a new environment unlike anywhere they have ever learned before.
Concepts such as Freshman Seminar, Dual Enrollment, and Career Pathways are foreign, and the process of taking that giant leap forward can be overwhelming and stressful. However, high school allows students to amass exciting new experiences that overshadow any fear inspired by the new environment.
“I was a little scared, but it’s not that bad,” Leah Mann said.
With the end of the first semester, Freshmen have had time to establish a presence within our tight-knit community. This community is constructed through clubs, sports, and specialized classes that provide students with the ability to connect with peers who share similar interests and goals.
“English is pretty cool,” Rielan Medley said,
Outside of core classes, Karns High School has many electives that expose students to areas of interest and build skills that will aid them in their future careers. On top of the skills that are acquired by these specialized electives, KHS provides a variety of extracurricular activities that promote responsibility, discipline, accountability, school pride, and teamwork.
“It [Band] is fun. I like to play instruments and Ms. Grey is a hype director,” Rylee Pehrson said, “I have made new friends.”
No matter your experience at Karns this year–whether as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior–it is important to remember that we all made the jump from middle school to high school, a transition that brought its share of trepidation for everyone. So in that regard, make sure to be kind and accepting of the incoming freshmen next year.
