Since the beginning of the school year Karns High School has had all but two student bathrooms locked. The reason the bathrooms are locked has to do with the ongoing vandalism. As a result of them closing, students now have to walk an unnecessary distance from one end of the school to the other when going to the bathroom.
“It’s stupid how you have to travel halfway around the school,” Nicolas Noe said.
Although the school has stated the locking is due to vandalism, students believe that there may be other factors that led to the bathrooms closing. Part of the locking may be due to some students’ misuse of the restrooms, abusing the privacy of them to break school’s rules.
“I think they locked the bathrooms to keep people from doing stupid stuff,” Taylor Pressley said.
Some complain about the bathrooms being locked, while others just don’t care. The reason some complain may vary, but we can agree that traveling halfway around the school sounds exhausting and students clearly want a solution.
“Be more respectful of property, not breaking mirrors, clogging toilets, as well as not skipping class or vaping,” Shelby Cayton said.
It’s understandable to be mad about the bathrooms being locked, but it’s best to leave that to the authority figures. There’s one thing everyone can agree on though, having to walk all the way across the school just to use the bathroom is an unnecessary hardship for students who follow the rules when we have plenty of usable restrooms throughout the school. To keep the bathrooms open, students must be responsible and respectful of the school’s property.
