During the week of March 31st – April 4th Karns High School hosted a spring fling week, which gives teachers and students a chance to embrace their creative side. The week consists of different dress up days. Last spring fling week consisted of Adam Sandler day, Anything but a backpack day, Character day, Hawaiian shirt day, and Blue/ Gold day.
“It helps raise school spirit,” Kevin Gentry said.
At Karns High School many students have participated in spring fling week, seeing others dressed up has encouraged creativity. It has also been an enjoyable week for seniors. When schools do dress up days it gives students a chance to embrace their inner child, which can bring more school spirit. The more spirit weeks we could have, the more students want to participate in activities.
“Character day because there are a lot of characters you can be and it’s fun to see what other people like,” Xavier Pelliter said.
Out of the five dress up days a lot of students have said that their favorite dress up day was character day. The reason a lot of people like character day varies. Dressing up as your favorite character is really fun. As well as it makes the school day a lot more fun.Some students have said another favorite dress up day was anything but a backpack day. A lot of students participated in that day. Student’s brought little shopping carts, children’s toys, and things you can find around your house. Some students even brought their little siblings to be their backpack for the day.
“Having prizes with it,” Maria Silva said.
Some students think that having posters put up around the school would bring more recognition to spring fling week. Others think that having prizes for the students who dressed the best with the theme for that day. Students might participate more if they get recognition for the work they put into their outfit. The more recognition you put into the work a student has done the more students are likely to participate.
Many students participated in spring fling week. While some students had critiques, everyone still had fun. Student opinions are ways to increase the amount of students who participate. Spring fling week is a good way to let high school students embrace their creative freedom. The best way to help a student achieve big things in life is to let them have fun once in a while.
