Spirit week for homecoming is coming to Karns High School from 9/29 to 10/3 and is sponsored by the Karns student council. Here are the themes: Monday is Blue Jeans; Tuesday is Battle of the Bands; Wednesday is Back Where I Come From; Thursday is No Rhyme or Reason; and Friday is Toga/Black Out. Friday is also the homecoming football game and dance. The dance’s theme is black and white. Some other information that the student council is doing is posted on the bulletin board near the old commons.
“When I became President, I just wanted everyone to feel like they could jump in and have a good time, no matter what grade they’re in,” Hunter Jenkins said, “Honestly, stuff like Blue Jean Day on Monday is perfect for that [Spirit Week]. Everybody’s got jeans, right? It’s super chill, super easy, and just a fun way to get everyone together right from the start. Even if you’re new here, you can totally join in. That’s the vibe I’m going for.”
Spirit Week isn’t just a bunch of silly costumes—it’s about everyone coming together. The spirit week starts off easy with Blue Jeans Monday, but by Friday when people hit the wild Toga/Black Out day and Homecoming, everyone’s hyped up. The Student Council picked each theme so people would actually wanna join in, not just sit on the sidelines.
“Planning Spirit Week is a bit crazy, but it’s all kinds of fun,” Addie Jones said, “We’re just a bunch of people tossing around theme ideas that everyone can actually get into, nothing too wild, but definitely not boring. We just want each day to feel special. Not just ‘Hey, wear a silly hat,’ but something everyone looks forward to.”
Addie wanted every day to feel different on purpose. Wednesday’s all about representing your hometown, then Thursday totally flips into goofy mode. It’s not just random, though; they actually put time into planning out these themes for Homecoming.
“Spirit Week is my favorite week of the year because it brings the whole school together,” Capri Coomer said, “I like seeing all the energy in the people when we do spirit week.”
Spirit Week at Karns is not just some cheesy parade of silly costumes. It’s the school’s excuse to ditch the usual routine, show off some wild creativity, and actually feel like you belong to something bigger than just your homeroom. Every day has its own theme next week, so people can go all-out or just rock a pair of jeans and call it a day. Either way, people can participate. These are the days everyone remembers, way after that final slow song at the Homecoming dance fades out and you’re left with glitter in your hair and a million new inside jokes.
