At Karns High School, dual enrollment is offered to a wide range of students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher according to Pellissippi State Community College. Qualifications for certain classes differ, meaning GPA, ACT, and PSAT score requirements may vary as well. Dual enrollment classes will be a part of permanent college transcripts; therefore, applying yourself will be necessary if you have immense goals. Students must be mature enough to handle the responsibilities that come with dual enrollment such as a higher work load, more responsibility, and complex time management.
“Dual enrollment is worth it. It can open a lot of doors for you, and allows you to knock out your prerequisite classes,” Kaylee Williams, a KHS student, said.
For many students going into dual enrollment, it’s a good time to get required classes out of the way, in order to proceed with the more difficult classes pertaining to their field of study. Dual enrollment is also a good way to get out of your comfort zone, considering you will be around college students and be on a brand new campus.
“Dual enrollment has improved my high school experience because I don’t have a first period” Bryant Meredith said, “It gives me time to relax and prepare for my other classes.”
Meredith finds the downtime between dual enrollment classes and Karns classes to be very beneficial, giving him a nice amount of time to rest or get assignments done.
Kenneth Council (not in dual enrollment) says “I was thinking about going to a trade school but if I ever wanted to go to college dual enrollment would be a good opportunity.” said Kenneth Council, a student who is not in a dual enrollment class.
Even people looking outside-in often still think dual enrollment is good and can improve people’s chances of reaching their goals.
