Troll 2 arrived on Netflix on December 1st 2025 as a sequel to the original Troll released in 2022. The first movie is about a group of scientists finding a troll based on Norwegian folklore. The group ends up killing the troll but only after it wreaks havoc across the countryside. The movie was able to mix fantasy and disaster and became popular as a result.
The sequel is about a similar event happening yet again. This time, a Troll being studied in a lab has attacked. Troll 2 brought back many of the original characters, which in itself is not an issue, but it failed to differentiate itself from the original plotline and felt repetitive to many it’s the recurring fans from the first movie.
The movie struggles with poor pacing, It starts strong with a mix of mystery and tension but quickly falls apart and slows down. The movie is filled with long stretches of characters talking without moving the plot forward. Some scenes feel like filler as they make little to no sense. At one point in the movie they are worried about moving holy water. Instead of getting a priest to bless more they instead form a bucket line. Scenes like this make it seem like the writers were just padding for time
One of the biggest selling points that Netflix had advertised was the promise of large scale fighting scenes between multiple trolls, however the fight in the movie ended up being short and lackluster. Although the fight itself wasn’t good, the CGI used in it and the entire movie itself was great, but a talented CGI team can only do so much on their own.
At several points the movie gets boring and repetitive. It copies some scene and story beats from the first movie without adding anything new. Characters make similar and nonsensical choices while the story itself feels predictable.
Because the movie was originally filmed in Norwegian, the English dubbing feels strange and unnatural, taking away from the quality of the original language. At some points in the english dub the characters sounded flat and out of sync. A big emotional scene could be happening and the character would sound like they didn’t care. This took viewers away from the drama and ruined certain scenes.
Overall, Troll 2 has plenty of cool looking moments and strong visual effects, but poor dubbing and a weak plot causes it to fall flat. Fans of the first movie may enjoy the sequel, however many viewers see it as an unnecessary and unwanted sequel.
