The holidays surrounding November and December always brings up the debate of who decorates for Christmas before Thanksgiving, who decorates after Thanksgiving, and whose opinion is correct.
With Christmas break just around the corner, season’s spirits are at a high. Black Friday sparked gift buying and holiday sales for the season. Gifts will be wrapped and celebrations will take place, but will there be decorations and when will they be put up?
Many people believe that Christmas decorations are meant to be put up after Thanksgiving. Some believe that Christmas decorations take away from the Thanksgiving atmosphere and other stand firm on the fact that Christmas is meant for December only. Aliza Dunaway, senior at Karns, stands firm in her belief.
“Thanksgiving is still fall,” Dunaway said. “I’m not gonna decorate for December when it’s still fall.”
On the other hand, many people believe that Christmas decorations can be put up before Thanksgiving. Many people don’t host Thanksgiving in their home and want to decorate early. Others want to feel the Christmas spirit as soon as they can and believe that decorating early is the best way to feel that. Lakia McMahon, senior at Karns, explains her feeling about Christmas decorations.
“I decorate the weekend after Halloween,” McMahon said. “I like the Christmas atmosphere. It makes everything feel warm and cozy.”
The Christmas spirit is in full swing here at Karns. Christmas decorations have been put up in the Commons. Saturday is filled with Christmas joy with the Karns Christmas Parade and Cookies with Santa. No matter when you put your decorations up, the holiday spirit is here.
