Each year repticon tours the united states and on november 8th and 9th they returned to Knoxville. This event gave visitors the opportunity to see many exotic animals up close and personal. This event gives hobbyists a chance to learn and purchase animals directly from breeders.
One of the biggest draws of the event was the wide range of diverse sellers. The Jacobs building exposition center, where the event took place, was large enough for many different breeders to set up shop. At the event you could see people selling a plethora of animals from a few species of isopods, to snakes and even puppies. The variety ensured that most people attending had something that would interest them.
One of the tables was Family Reptiles, a sponsor of the event. They specialized in ball pythons, one of the most popular pet snake species, but they also showed off geckos and enclosures. Many of the animals were sold by the breeders, which let them be sold at a discounted price compared to pet stores. This made it easier for people to acquire them affordably while learning how to take care of them. Although the focus was on purchasing, it was also an opportunity to learn about a diverse range of different animals.
Some people came to just look while others went to make a purchase. Some people there bought White dwarf isopods, others bought millipedes while some just browsed and plan. The event had a large amount of supplies and examples which let people think about what they needed.
Many tables sold basic terrariums to fully fleshed out setups making it easy for people to get everything they needed in one place. Some vendors even showcased how to set up a cage which helped visitors prepare before they bought. There were also some displays of tanks with full ecosystems. The amount of supply and sellers made planning easier and less overwhelming for many people.
Repticon is a year round event and it will return to Knoxville in May. For anyone interested in reptiles or just curious about exotic animals this event is a perfect chance to start learning about reptiles and maybe discover a new hobby.
